THE MAIN SECTORS OF INTEREST AND DEVELOPMENT ARE PRESENTED HEREAFTER:- Production of radioisotopes for medical use. IRE is one of the leading Mo-99/Tc-99m producers in the world. This isotope is mainly used for the diagnosis of cancer and cardiological diseases. Other key isotopes such as I-131, Xe-133, Y-90 and Re-188 are also produced by IRE for diagnosis and therapy applications.
- Safety, Nuclear metrology and radiological monitoring of the environment. IRE designs, supplies, operates and maintains automatic control networks for the monitoring of air and water radioactivity in a given geographical area. Its nuclear metrology unit performs the measurement of the low-level activity samples of various origins.
- Management of radioactive waste produced on site and spent sealed radioactive sources coming from Belgium and Luxembourg.
- Engineering and maintenance of nuclear installations. Some special equipment has been designed by IRE for being used in hot radioactive area.
